Will the International Break Slow Down Manchester United and Manchester City?

The international break could not have come at a worse time for the two English Premier League clubs from Manchester. City and United have gotten off to brilliant starts through their first three Premier League games, both securing the maximum nine points. There is no question that the break in action will effect the momentum that United and City have gathered, but will it effect their form when the English Premier League resumes on the 10th of September?

Manchester City

City are finally legitimate title contenders. The first reason is that they are playing positive and attacking football, which they failed to do last season. Mancini has unleashed the shackles and it has paid huge dividends to his club’s success in the Premier League.

The second reason, Edin Dzeko. The Bosnian striker has been on sparkling form for City, scoring in every game of the season thus far. He is the top scorer in the English Premier League through three games, netting six times already.

Former Bosnian senior team boss Amar Osim, who is currently managing FK Željezničar Sarajevo, has backed his former star to get better and better at City.

“It was always going to take time.

“Dzeko is a player who depends on those around him, so he needed time to adjust.

“He’s not an individual player who will dribble past five players like Lionel Messi. He is a team player.

“Roberto Mancini always knew what Dzeko was capable of, and the fans are starting to see that now as well.

“They are following his progress at Zeljeznicar.

“People there still talk about him, even though he was only in the first team for a couple of years. They follow every City game.

“Dzeko is a very efficient striker.

“If he gets three chances, he will score two goals. While he is not the quickest player, he has a knack of being in the right place at the right time.”

Manchester United

As far as United goes, they are doing what United teams usually do. Win, and win convincingly. The Red Devils, lead by Sir Alex Ferguson, sit atop the English Premier League table, ahead of their “noisy neighbours” Manchester City on goal difference.

United’s new signings have proved their worth for Sir Alex Ferguson in one way or another. Ashley Young has been absolutely brilliant in the Premier League, bagging two spectacular goals and providing four assists in just three games.

Phil Jones has been extremely impressive as a replacement for the injured Rio Ferdinand. His performances versus Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal were both steady and strong.

Despite criticism from countless football experts, David de Gea hasn’t been as shaky as most people have claimed. He was quite good against Spurs and managed to parry a Robin van Persie penalty away against the Gunners. Good news for United supporters, de Gea seems to be turning it around in a hurry.

I can’t see the international break slowing down either City or United at the moment. They were my predictions to finish in the top two and I sticking to my prediction. Not sure which club will win it. We’ll have to wait and find out in May. Until then, good day.

Win convincingly? Are we talking about the same Man U that got so many last minute winners last season?
