Will Wenger’s philosophy finally pay off again with silverware?

Is the Arsenal captain the key to success?Arsenal defeated Bolton 4-2 at the Emirates Stadium after coming back from two goals down. The victory took them to the top of the league on goal difference. Arsenal were again scintillating going forward and a bit too naive at the back.

Silverware

There are very few managers in world football at such a big club who could survive five years without a trophy but Arsene Wenger is one. Wenger however is a special case.

He a special coach with very well held beliefs. Even after five years without a trophy he has stuck to his guns.

Key Stars

They are the best attacking team in the Premier League on their day and the Gunners seem to be having more of those days. The style of play has not changed in a long time but this season could finally see that long awaited piece of silverware return to the Emirates Stadium.

The likes of Cesc Fabregas and Andrey Arshavin would grace any team in the world and both have been vital to the team this season. The stories about Fabregas leaving for Real Madrid or Barcelona next summer have hardly put the Spaniard off his stride and he remains the key to the Arsenal success.

Youngsters

Another feature of Arsenal’s team is as always the youngsters breaking through into the first team. Wenger has always been superb at bringing in youngsters and developing them into first team players. This season has proved no different with the likes of Fran Merida, Aaron Ramsey and Armand Traore featuring more in the first team.

The young player I’m most impressed with is young Aaron Ramsey. The Welsh youngster was Cardiff’s City’s worse kept secret before joining Arsenal ahead of Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton to sign him.

This season he has started to show just what all the fuss was about. The fact he has been training with the quality of player he has in the last few years has clearly helped his development. He is starting to look like the long-term successor to Fabregas, who will in all likelihood move to Spain in the not too distant future.

I am not saying that Ramsey is as good as the Gunners captain but he will be a top player. He has the swagger and confidence of an Arsenal midfielder and he has the talent to go with the swagger. He’s another gem that’s been polished by the jeweller that is Arsene Wenger.

Missing

Arsenal are currently missing Dutch striker Robin Van Persie. He’s likely to be absent for the rest of the season but at the moment the Gunners are still winning without the former Feyenoord ace. Even with their main striking threat the Gunners are still scoring goals for fun.

Wenger has already stated he would like to sign another striker but with time running out in the transfer window, the Gunners boss looks less likely to sign one.

Tough

A strange thing happened in Wednesday’s night’s victory over Bolton. The Gunners showed that they could now battle as well as play superb expansive football. That quality has been lacking in the Arsenal side and that’s why they have failed to have any success in the last few years.

I have told everybody that will listen that all Arsenal needed was a bit of steel and they would be top dogs again. Could they have now found that steel they need to go on and win their first trophy in five years?

Although I’m not an Arsenal fan, but I am a fan of the style of football they play. I would like to see Arsenal win a trophy this season, as their attacking football is how football should be played and Arsene Wenger deserves more success for his faith in his footballing beliefs.
