Portuguese daily newspaper A Bola has suggested that Sporting CP may decide to cash in on star player William Carvalho in the January transfer window.
The 24-year-old has long ago become one of Europe’s most sought-after footballers, with a number of English Premier League sides showing interest in his services.
And while the Lions are not keen on selling their prized assets, there are two scenarios that would persuade them to change their minds.
Sporting CP will obviously have no say if the player’s €45 million release clause is matched, but they will also consider selling Carvalho for less in case team’s slump in form continues.
The Lions currently sit two points behind Champions League positions, but if the leading trio creates a significant advantage, they would probably entertain offers for the Portugal international.
William Carvalho has been almost ever present for Sporting CP over the last three and a half years, while also starting five games as Portugal lifted the Euro 2016 trophy.
