William Saliba is desperate to leave Arsenal in January in order to be able to get some first-team football under his belt, according to the Mirror.
The Gunners signed the 19-year-old defender from Saint-Etienne in 2018 and sent him back to the Ligue 1 side on a season-long loan. However, the season in France was cut short because of the Covid-19 outbreak and Saliba made only 12 appearances, much less than Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta had hoped for. Upon his arrival to north London this summer, Arteta made an assessment of the player and judged that he still wasn’t ready to represent the club at senior level. Therefore, Saliba was left out of the 25-man squad for 2020/21.
Arsenal have been considering the possibility of a January loan move, and the player himself wants that to happen. Saint-Etienne are once again in the running, but they are unable to match his Arsenal wages at this point.
Nonetheless, Saliba would apparently be willing to have his earnings cut by £90,000 in exchange for a proper first-team opportunity.
