Newcastle’s Mike Williamson is facing a three-game suspension for violent conduct from his clash with Bolton striker Johan Elmander.
Video replays show the United defender charging into the Bolton goal-scorer, and the Football Association announced on Monday they had charged the former Portsmouth player.
“Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson has today been charged with violent conduct,” the FA statement read.
“The charge relates to an incident involving Johan Elmander in his side’s fixture with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, November 20.”
“Williamson has until 6pm on Tuesday, November 23 to reply to the charge and under the FA’s fast-track regulations, may admit the charge and accept a standard three-match suspension.”
Should Williamson accept the charge, he will sit alongside fellow central defender Fabricio Coloccini in the stands on Sunday when Chelsea visit St James Park for their English Premier League encounter.
Coloccini received a straight red card for a stray elbow in the loss to Bolton.
