Willian has reached an agreement with Corinthians to join the Brazilian side, according to Fabrizio Romano, with Arsenal willing to allow him to leave for free despite two years still remaining on his contract.
Aware that his time at the Emirates hasn’t been a success, the 33-year-old winger has reportedly decided against sitting out the remained of the deal which has had him earning £240,000 per week. He has accepted a pay cut of 70% instead, in order to secure a return to his country, and his departure is expected to allow Arsenal to save around £20 million through a significant reduction of their wage bill.
Having arrived from Chelsea as a free agent last year, Willian made a total of 37 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions, in what turns out to have been his only season at the Emirates. He managed to score only one goal for the club, producing seven assists.
With Chelsea, Willian won two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and one League Cup.
