Russian side Anzhi have produced a major coup by signing Brazilian midfielder Willian from Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Russian Premier League side announced the transfer on their official website, stating the player had signed a long-term deal with the club.
Anzhi have produced a major coup by signing one of the world’s most sought-after players, with Guardian reporting the transfer is worth €35 million.
Willian has thus been added to a star-studded line-up in Makhachkala, with the likes of Samuel Eto’o, Lassana Diarra, Yuri Zhirkov and Lacina Traore already on Anzhi’s books.
The 24-year-old midfielder had been heavily linked with Chelsea and Tottenham, who both had hefty bids rejected by Shakhtar, but it was Anzhi’s mega offer that saw them win the race for the highly rated footballer.
Willian has spent last five seasons with the Miners, making 120 league appearances and scoring 20 goals in the process, but it was his impressive displays in the Champions League that helped him attract attention from top European clubs.
