In an interview with Sky Sports, Willian said he would love to stay and play for Chelsea until he is 40, but he cannot make any promises at this point.
Unless a new one is signed by then, the 31-year-old will be out of contract at the end of the season. He has reportedly been an object of interest for Barcelona, while other reports claim Juventus have already made contact with Chelsea over a move in January. However, if the Brazil international gets his way, he’ll be staying at Stamford Bridge for a while yet.
This is not the first time in recent weeks Willian has said something like this, and it seems he’s truly happy with playing under Frank Lampard, as well as the other way around. He started all six Champions League games Chelsea have played this season so far, as well as 13 out of the 18 in the Premier League, where he has also made further four appearances off the bench.
Nonetheless, the ongoing negotiations over a new deal don’t seem close to conclusion, and Willian says he hopes he’ll be able to say he’s staying, but at the moment, he can’t.
