Apparently, the talks between Willian and Chelsea over a new contract for the Brazilian have hit an obstacle. As reported by the Evening Standard, the player and the club have so far failed to agree on a duration of the proposed new deal. The 31-year-old is bound to the London club until the end of the season, and after that he will be able to leave for free unless a solution to the problem is found.
It seems the winger is adamant that any contract he is to sign should run for at least three years, while Chelsea feel they’ve done enough by putting a two-year deal on the table, already breaking their long-standing rule about not offering players over 30 anything other than a 12-month extension.
Willian’s future has been an object of speculation for a long time, with Barcelona reportedly interested in his services. The player himself, however, recently said he and his family would prefer to stay in London, which the media took as a hint at a possible reunion with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, now in charge at Tottenham Hotspur.
