Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has slammed former team-mate Samir Nasri for the Frenchman’s comments after Manchester City’s title win.

After City clinched the Premier League title with their dramatic 3-2 win over QPR on Sunday, Nasri commented that he left Arsenal because his new club ‘never settle for second best’.

Amid celebrations of City’s first title in 44 years, Nasri had a go at Arsenal fans who had criticised him for leaving the London-based club.

“I now hope the Arsenal fans can get on with their lives and forget me, they should celebrate their third-place achievement and I will focus on winning titles,” Nasri said.

Wilshere hit back on Wednesday.

“I don’t know what goes on in his head,” Wilshere said.

“Fair play, he has won a trophy, but over the next couple of years our goal is to win a trophy and I can see us winning a trophy.

“Maybe he spoke too soon and hopefully we can rub his face in it next year.”

Wilshere hopes that Arsenal’s guarantee of Champions League football will keep captain Robin van Persie at the club.

The 20-year-old midfielder knows the Dutch striker is crucial to Arsenal’s chances of winning their first piece of silverware since 2005.

“It’s important we keep him,” Wilshere said.

“Everybody knows what he brings to the team and also in terms of his leadership qualities.

“I think getting third place will help us do that.

“I know there are contract talks this week and I hope we can keep him in the team.”
