Hot-shot striker Edin Dzeko admitted Wednesday it would fulfill a lifelong dream if he switched to Italian giants AC Milan next summer as he eyes a possible move away from German champions Wolfsburg.
The 23-year-old helped Wolfsburg win the German league title last season as hit 26 goals, including three hat-tricks, and in August he signed a four-year contract which has a buy-out clause.
But the Bosnia and Herzegovina star is eyeing a move to the Italian league while he bids to help his country qualify for next summer’s World Cup with a play-off match against Portugal on Wednesday night.
“Everyone knows that Milan is my dream club,” said Dzeko, who is contracted with Wolfsburg until 2013. “I hope I can play there next season.”
The striker’s market value is around 30 million euros (44 million US dollars) and he was heavily-courted by Milan at the end of last season.
He has made no secret he wants to play Champions League football and English giants Manchester United are also tracking his form.
Although Wolfsburg boss Armin Veh wants to keep him, the money raised from the sale would allow the defending champions to rebuild.
“It is a fact that he is able to leave if there is a club willing to pay the amount agreed in his contract,” said Veh.
“This amount of money would put us in the position of being able to find a replacement of a standard comparable to Edin Dzeko’s.”
