With the Bundesliga making its return behind closed doors this weekend, Wolfsburg will be looking to carry on where they left off in March when they make the trip to a struggling Augsburg on Saturday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, although a stellar start to the season may have shocked many across Germany, Augsburg found themselves drastically short of both form and confidence prior to the break. Freefalling down the Bundesliga table after losing four of their last five outings, a run highlighted by a woeful 5-0 hammering away at Eintracht Frankfurt, Heiko Herrlich’s men have collected just a single point out of a possible 15 and have continued to show some glaring issues at the back. With no side outside of the drop zone holding a worse defensive record than the Whites, Augsburg have now failed to record a single clean sheet since opening 2020. Hit with an embarrassing 8-1 defeat when they faced off against Wolfsburg last season, there is no doubt that Saturday’s hosts should be in for a tough return this weekend.

As for the visitors, while the mood in Augsburg’s camp might have been at a low prior to the break, Wolfsburg have suddenly played themselves into the European picture. Picking up what was an eye-catching draw against title contenders RB Leipzig last time out, Die Wölfe are unbeaten in their last six Bundesliga appearances, their brightest run of the season so far. Opening the weekend just a point adrift of Schalke and that lucrative sixth spot, Head Coach Oliver Glasner will be growing more impressed by his side’s clinical edge in the final third. While top scorer Wout Weghorst will be serving a suspension on Saturday, Wolfsburg have bagged at least a pair of goals in four of their last six Bundesliga outings and it should also be noted that they have bagged a very impressive nine strikes in their last three matchups on the road.
