Bundesliga giants Wolfsburg have confirmed they are keeping close tabs on Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.
The Wolves hope to sign a high-profile striker this summer and the Belgian appears to have emerged as their top target.
Club chief Klaus Allofs has denied the club making a reported €28 million bid for the player, but went on to confirm their interest.
“This (the transfer bid) is most definitely not true. But he is a good player. And it is no secret we are looking for a centre forward,” Allofs told Bild.
Romelu Lukaku is almost certain to leave Stamford Bridge with Chelsea having signed Diego Costa and Didier Drogba, while Jose Mourinho does not want to sell the youngster to a Premier League rival.
This is a perfect case scenario for Wolfsburg, who are ready to make the Belgium international one of their top earners.
Despite only making 10 Premier League appearances for Chelsea since joining from Anderlecht two and a half years ago, Lukaku has managed to prove his worth in England’s elite division, netting 32 times in 66 matches for West Brom and Everton.
