Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad is reporting that Wolfsburg face a real battle on their hands to keep hold of star player Kevin de Bruyne.
The 23-year-old has had instant impact at Volkswagen Arena since joining from Chelsea and is already regarded one of league’s top players.
But, even though his contract with the Wolves runs until June 2019, there is a chance he could be leaving as early as next summer.
Namely, Wolfsburg need to cut back spending in order to comply with FIFA’s Financial Fair Play rules, having already splashed the cash on De Bruyne and Schurrle in the last two transfer windows.
This basically means that the Wolves will probably have to consider any big money offer for the player’s services.
Furthermore, if De Bruyne’s representatives request a new and improved deal for their client, chances are a release clause will be interested in his contract, which should make the job easier for his suitors.
