Bundesliga giants Wolfsburg have stepped up their efforts to sign German striker Mario Gomez from Fiorentina, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Wolves are desperate to recruit a proven goalscorer before the Bundesliga campaign starts in some ten days and they appear to have made the Germany international their primary target.
The good news is that Fiorentina hope to get rid of their highest earner and thus save some €10 million in wages and taxes, which is why their asking price is mere €5 million.
Wolfsburg will have no problem matching the club’s valuation, but they also need to persuade Gomez to return to Bundesliga.
The veteran striker was hoping to either remain in Italy or move to Spain, but a lucrative three-year contract offer could make him change his mind.
Mario Gomez, 31, was in excellent form last season, bagging 26 goals in 33 league outings for Besiktas.
