(GSM) – Bundesliga champions VfL Wolfsburg have sacked coach Armin Veh following a series of poor results.

Veh, who had joined the Wolfsburg based giants to replace the Schalke departing Felix Magath at the helm last summer, but he has been unable to replicate the success of his predecessor.

Wolfsburg have gone seven Bundesliga games without a win and have not picked up three points on the domestic scene since beating Hoffenheim 2-1 on 7th November.

A 3-2 home defeat by lowly Cologne at the weekend only served to intensify the pressure on Veh, and Wolfsburg have now decided to act.

He has been dismissed with immediate effect and early reports have linked former Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster with the role.

In addition to a disappointing run in the Bundesliga, which sees Wolfsburg in 10th spot, 17 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen, the club also failed to progress beyond the group phase of the UEFA Champions League.

Needing a win at home to Manchester United in their final group match, Wolfsburg lost 3-1 to slip into the Europa League, where they will play Villarreal.
