Wolves, Bolton and Spurs claim Premier League victories

Wolves defeated Wigan 3-1 at Molineux to claim three vital points in the Premier League’s early kick-off.

Wolves took the lead in the 31st minute midfielder Jamie O’Hara scoring from ten yards after a good break from Kevin Doyle.

The visitors won a penalty in the 41st minute as Emmerson Boyce was brought down by Stephen Hunt in the Wolves penalty area.

Midfielder Ben Watson saw his spot kick saved by Wayne Hennessy only to score from the rebound. The home side regained the lead in the 55th minute as midfielder David Edwards scored from close-range after Wigan keeper Ali Al-Habsi pulled off two good saves.

Wolves made it three in the 66th minute, Stephen Ward’s deflected shot beating Al-Habsi after the keeper had saved O’Hara’s effort. The victory took Wolves up to 13th in the Premier League table. The visitors are still routed to the bottom of the table.

Elsewhere Bolton hammered Stoke 5-0 at the Reebok Stadium. Bolton enjoyed a superb start with striker Kevin Davies opening the scoring from a simple tap-in the 2nd minute after Ivan Klasnic had found the striker in space from a free-kick.

The home side were two up in the 23rd minute as more calamitous defending cost Stoke. Potters keeper Asmir Begovic tried to clear a pass-back only to find Bolton midfielder Chris Eagles who showed good skill to control the ball and fire pass the helpless Begovic in the Stoke goal.

Bolton were three up in the 61st minute as Croatian striker Ivan Klasnic scored from the edge of the area from a good lay-back from full-back Paul Robinson. And in the 73rd minute Bolton were four up. Davies flicked the ball on to Klasnic, who plays it through to Eagles and midfielder fired home his second of the game.

The rout was completed in the 82nd minute as Ivan Klasnic scored from close-range after David Wheater headed on a Chris Eagles corner to find the Croatian. Bolton gained revenge for their 5-0 FA Cup thrashing of last season.

The three points were much needed for the Trotters, the victory moved the Wanderers up to 18th in the Premier League. The Potters are now just three points ahead of their opponents in the table.

Tottenham claimed a 3-1 victory at Fulham despite the home side having a lot of the game. The visitors took the lead in the 9th minute as Gareth Bale’s drive took a deflection off Chris Baird and beat Schwarzer in the Fulham goal.

Just before half-time Spurs took a two goal lead as Aaron Lennon cut inside Baird before drilling home a low shot into the corner of the net. The home side got back in the game on 56 minutes, Brede Hangeland’s header hitting Younes Kaboul on the back before going into the net.

Fulham pushed for an equaliser but were denied by a string of superb saves by Tottenham keeper Brad Friedel. Tottenham didn’t secure maximum points until injury-time when substitute Jermain Defoe’s shot took a deflection off Stephen Kelly and found a way past Schwarzer.

Fulham will feel slightly hard-done after having a large amount of the play. Tottenham will be hoping that their luck continues in the same vein.
