Wolverhampton have completed the signing of Iceland international Eggert Jonsson from Hearts.
The 23-year-old has agreed terms on a deal which will keep him at Molineux until the end of the 2014-2015 season.
The fee involved is undisclosed, with the contract coming into effect on January 1.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy said the club has been tracking the midfielder for a while, and is hoping Jonsson’s versatility will be a welcome addition to his squad as they look to avoid relegation.
“We’ve been watching Eggert for a long time and he has impressed Dave (Bowman) and our scouts up there,” McCarthy told the club’s official website.
“He’s a versatile midfield player who can play in a number of positions comfortably and will be a good addition to the squad.”
“He’s a good player now but he’s also one of those at an age where he has got more improvement in him and should get better and better.”
“And playing alongside better players in a better league will only help him in that respect.”
Wolves are 16th on the Premier League table following their 2-2 draw with Norwich on Tuesday.
