Jonathan Woodgate is set to leave Tottenham on-loan in a bid to regain full fitness, with a return to former club Leeds a possibility.
The ex-England defender has struggled to overcome a long-standing groin injury and has not played first-team football for Spurs since November 2009.
With the 30-year-old not eligible to feature for Spurs in the English Premier League, manager Harry Redknapp appears keen for him to build up his match fitness with a view to perhaps adding Woodgate to his 25-man squad at the end of the January transfer window.
Leeds boss Simon Grayson publicly revealed his interest on Thursday in bringing Woodgate back to the club where he began his Premier League career, but he could have competition from fellow Championship club Queens Park Rangers.
“He is still looking to get back to fitness and needs to get a game under his belt before he is ready to get out anywhere and play,” Redknapp told the Daily Mirror on Saturday.
“We would let him out on loan if he’s okay.”
“We’d let him go out to Leeds or QPR. That would be good for him, but it’s day by day.”
