Sport Mediaset understands that Italian defender Cristian Zaccardo is set to sign for Melita FC.

Coached by Italian tactician Andrea Pisanu, the club ply their trade in Malta’s second division and they are in all sorts of problems at the moment.

Melita FC lost first four games of the new league campaign, conceding 14 goals in the process, meaning they can definitely use someone of Zaccardo’s stature.

The 35-year-old, who won the 2006 World Cup with Italy, has been a free agent since leaving Vicenza in July this year.

Zaccardo famously advertised his services via LinkedIn social network, claiming he received 1,000 offers after his post on LinkedIn.

The Italian was also on the radar of top flight club Hamrun Spartans, but he reportedly decided to join his compatriot Pisanu at Melita FC.
