Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso has reportedly agreed to sign a new contract at Santiago Bernabeu, reports Spanish daily ABC.
The player’s current deal runs until June 2014, which has led to speculations linking him with a move away from the club.
However, ABC understands that the two parties have reached an agreement on a two-year contract that will see Alonso earn €5 million per campaign.
With only minor details remaining to be sorted, the contract will be officially signed in the coming weeks.
Xabi Alonso joined los Blancos from Liverpool in the summer of 2009 and he has since developed into a key player at Santiago Bernabeu.
The 31-year-old went on to make 135 La Liga appearances, scoring 4 goals and winning one league title in the process.
This will come as a huge boost for Real Madrid as they attempt to revive their title bid, with los Blancos 7/2 to pip Barcelona to the league trophy.
