Xavi set to quit Barca

Barcelona icon Xavi Hernandez has decided to leave the club at the end of the current season, Marca can reveal.

Even though the veteran midfielder has a contract until June 2016 at Camp Nou, he is ready to quit the Catalans in the summer.

Having been only used sparingly by coach Luis Enrique, Xavi is well aware that his long career at the club is drawing to a close.

The 35-year-old plans to continue his career at one of the exotic destinations and he is currently very close to accepting a lucrative proposal from Qatar.

Namely, he has been offered a three-year deal worth €6 million per campaign, although MLS side New York City FC have also expressed interest.

Xavi Hernandez has been at Barcelona since 1991, having graduated from club’s youth academy before going on to 492 league appearances and score 57 goals in total.

The midfielder played for Spain between 2000 and 2014, earning 133 caps and scoring 12 goals.
