In a recent interview with Marca, Xavi Simons appeared to be hinting at turning down an opportunity to return to Paris Saint-Germain and staying at PSV Eindhoven.
Having joined PSG from Barcelona at the Under-19 level, the highly-rated 19-year-old attacking midfielder rejected a new contract proposal from the Ligue 1 champions last summer and joined PSV as a free agent, though PSG still have the option to bring him back under certain conditions. He doesn’t hide his happiness at being back in his homeland; he’s already made his senior international debut for Netherlands in December. In 31 appearances in all competitions for PSV, Simons has scored 13 goals and provided six assists.
Asked about his future, Simons confirmed that PSG have the option of taking him back to Paris, but he also pointed out that the final decision was his to make, that he signed a five-year contract with PSV and that he’s very happy in Eindhoven.
