Barcelona midfielder Xavi and goalkeeper Victor Valdes lament their tragic loss against Rubin Kazan as sheer unluck.
Rubin Kazan astound with a 2-1 unanticipated victory over the indestructible champions Barcelona at Camp Nou.
The Russians inflicted a first defeat on Pep Guardiola’s side in Europe’s top club competition in 10 matches.
Despite enjoying long periods of possession and having 13 shots on target, twice hitting the woodwork in the second half, Barca were undone by Aleksandr Ryazantsev’s long-range drive and a breakaway goal from Gokdeniz Karadeniz.
Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes revealed that Rubin Kazan’s first goal kept him astounded; however, he believes that his team had played well and all that his team lacked was a little luck at goal scoring.
Valdes admitted that, “The first goal came from a ball that made an unusual trajectory and I was surprised at the distance because nobody tries to score a goal from there,” quotes AS.
“It was just absolutely rotten luck and the way the match went we did not deserve to lose. We played well but it makes it hard when your opponents only come to defend,” says Barca midfielder, Xavi.
Barcelona remains on the top of Group F on goal difference after three of six matches, level on four points with Dynamo Kiev and Rubin. After their home loss against Rubin, they next face a likely difficult away match against the Kazan’s on 4th November.
