Blackburn striker Yakubu feels his side can begin to push higher up the Premier League after their shock 3-2 victory over Manchester United.
The Nigerian scored twice for Rovers to give them the lead at Old Trafford, and despite Dimitar Berbatov levelling things up for the home side with a brace of his own, Grant Hanley headed home a late winner to give Steve Kean’s men all three points.
The victory lifted them off the bottom of the table and Yakubu, who has scored 12 league goals this season, believes it is the perfect springboard to start pushing up the standings.
“We fought again and to come to Old Trafford and get three points is unbelievable,” he told the club’s official website.
“We have proved we deserve to be towards the top end of the league. It can provide the boost we need for the second half of the season.”
“It is a great feeling. Credit to the players, we scored goals and kept fighting. It is a great day for the club.”
“When you look at the team, some of the team are injured, but the players who played did really well.”
