Newcastle defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is being linked with a summer switch to Bordeaux, according to L’Equipe.
Les Girondins have stayed without Henrique and Jeremy Brechet, meaning they are desperate to sign a new centre-back in the summer transfer window.
And L’Equipe has learned that Newcastle’s Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is one of the first names on their hit-list.
The highly rated stopper only joined the Magpies in January 2013 from Montpellier, but he has failed to prove his worth at St James’ Park.
Yanga-Mbiwa went on to make 37 Premier League appearances for Newcastle, but he has failed to establish himself as a first team regular.
Considering that the squad at St James’ Park could undergo major changes ahead of the 2014/2015 season, the France international may be allowed to leave.
Despite starting two World Cup qualifiers, Yanga-Mbiwa has failed to make Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad, with France 1/3 to win their opening match against Honduras.
