Newcastle defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is set to have his loan deal at AS Roma turned into permanent move, according to Newcastle Chronicle.
The Giallorossi signed the 25-year-old on loan on transfer deadline day as he was deemed surplus to requirements at St James’ Park, and the defender in turn enjoyed a bright start to his career in Italy.
With Leandro Castan and Davide Astori sidelined, Yanga-Mbiwa started three Serie A fixtures, helping his side concede just one goal in the process.
As a result, Roma have expressed their desire to sign him on a permanent deal and with Newcastle giving the green light, the deal is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
Yanga-Mbiwa joined Newcastle from Montpellier as one of France’s top central defenders, but he never quite made the grade in English Premier League.
He did, however, amass 41 league outings for the Magpies, while making another six Europa League appearances.
