Manchester City midfield boss Yaya Toure has City and their supporters on the edge of their seats after admitting that he feels like a Catalan on Ona FM, a Spanish radio station.
The former Barcelona midfielder went on to assert that he is happy at City, but that is hard to believe, especially since this is not the first time this season that he’s shown interest in returning to Barca.
“Barca is the most important team for me, I feel happy at City but everything could change in the next couple of years…or days,” said the Ivorian.
“I have always been a Barca fan. In England I always saw their matches, and I feel like a Catalan.”
As you can see, these are some very strong statements coming from a player who just won the league title with one of the best football clubs on the planet.
I find it sensationally controversial that Yaya Toure, a Manchester City player nonetheless, dubbed Barcelona as the most important club for him. It’s absolutely brilliant.
If I was a filmmaker I would sign the Ivorian on as a consultant writer. Not only is he highly, highly controversial, but he’s got some cheek about him.
He basically said that “everything”, meaning his happiness I suppose, could change in a few years…or days.
His wittiness is fantastic, but Roberto Mancini would surely beg to differ.
The Italian is probably thinking, not again, not again. Why always me? Sorry lads, I couldn’t resist channeling my inner Mario Balotelli.
Now then, let’s put this useless, but entertaining, banter to rest and talk about the rumors surrounding Yaya Toure.
According to a bevy of sources, including Goal.com, the Côte d’Ivoire international is rumored to be on Jose Mourinho’s transfer shortlist.
So what did Yaya say about a possible move to Real Madrid?
“Barcelona fans would be mad if they saw me at Madrid, I understand that, but now I have to rest and see what the future lies for me,” said the City midfielder.
“People have been talking a lot about me and Madrid, but for me the most important thing is to win and be happy.”
Well, judging by the fact that his happiness could change in a few years, or days, it’s hard to say where the Ivorian will end up.
For that reason, he will most likely be a Manchester City player come the start of next season, but don’t be shocked if he puts in a transfer request to Barcelona in the near future.
