According to Uefa.com, Sporting Clube de Portugal have secured the future of highly regarded centre-back Daniel Carriço after the 20-year-old added three years to his contract, tying himself to the UEFA Champions League hopefuls until summer 2013.

“I am very happy,” said the Portuguese Under-21 international, who made his Champions League debut in the 5-2 defeat by FC Barcelona at the end of November. “It was and will continue to be an enormous pride to represent this club”. Carriço has been on Sporting’s books since he was eleven and has established himself in the side this season having spent last term on loan at second-tier SC Olhanense and then AEL Limassol FC in Cyprus.
