Young happy to be back on top

Manchester United winger Ashley Young was delighted his side went top of the Premier League after Sunday’s 2-0 victory over West Brom.

The Red Devils saw off the visiting West Brom side at Old Trafford thanks to a double from Wayne Rooney to leapfrog Manchester City, who fell to a surprise 1-0 defeat at Swansea.

With 10 games of the season left in the league, United have a slender one-point lead over their bitter rivals as the season approaches its climax.

Young capped an impressive display by winning the penalty for United’s second goal, and after the match he could not hide his joy at gaining three crucial points.

“We’re delighted to get the three points and be back at the top of the league,” he told Sky Sports News.

“We’re delighted with today and how it’s gone but I think we could’ve gone on and scored more goals.”

“We could have added a few more to the two that we got but we’re delighted to get the three points which is the main thing. We just keep looking forward to the next game now.”

The 26-year-old, who joined the club from Aston Villa last summer, suffered a spell on the sidelines before recently returning from injury, and feels that he has regained the form he showed earlier in the season.

“I’m delighted how things are going,” he said.

“I don’t think I’ve had an injury that’s kept me out for six weeks (before) and it’s been tough for me to get back into it but I think I’ve found my feet again with my early-season form.”

“I think I’ve re-found that and I’m delighted with how things are going.”

The current Premier League champions have trailed City for much of the season and Sunday’s victory sees them lead the league for the first time since October 15.

Despite reclaiming the top spot, Young is adamant that the result will not put more pressure on United and insists his side will look to keep up their form.

“I don’t think it does. The pressure’s always been on them and we’ve just gone about our job and that’s exactly what we’re going to do,” he said.

“We look forward to each game and that’s the next thing we look forward to.”
