Nigeria finished third in Group B of the World Youth Championship following a convincing 5-0 win over Tahiti.

The Africans had a 4-0 lead by half time with goals from Obiora Nwankwo (15th), Ibok Edet (24th), Kehinde Fatai (34th) and Nurudeen Orelesi (45th).

Tahiti went a man down just before the break as Lorenzo Tehau conceded a second yellow card in minute 43.

Namesake Alvin Tehau followed his teammate with a second booking in minute 74, and Nigeria took advantage of the situation as Daniel Adejo added a fifth and final goal near full time.

The chance of Nigeria qualifying for the second round remains slim, although their positive goal record (5-3) may be of positive influence.

With the way things are going, the Flyings Eagles of Nigeria might just be lucky to sail through. However, they’ll have to improve on their game if they hope to make any meaningful contribution in the games to come (hopefully).
