Speaking at a press conference in China ahead of the Premier League Asia Trophy game against Manchester City, Pablo Zabaleta of West Ham United has announced that the 2019/20 season will be his last in the Premier League.
The 34-year-old has been with the Hammers for two years, having previously spent nine at Manchester City. He made 333 appearances for the current league champions, and helped them win two league titles. One of the managers he worked with was the current West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini, and the experienced defender revealed that he had extended his contract last time – in May this year – because it was nice to be working with him again, and because he felt he could still give 100% on the pitch.
Zabaleta is still undecided on whether he will be retiring from the game completely. He is aware of his age and the fact that his career is moving towards its inevitable end, but he still enjoys being around young players and using his vast experience to help them.
