Italian defender Cristian Zaccardo claims he is prepared to battle for his place at San Siro despite pondering summer exit.
The 31-year-old joined Milan in January in a swap deal taking Djamel Mesbah to Parma, but went on to make just one substitute appearance in Serie A for the Rossoneri.
As a result, he was heavily linked with a summer exit, and he admits he did think about leaving the Italian giants.
“I had a few thoughts of moving on,” he told Tuttosport. “That’s only natural after the small number of minutes which I played.
“But then I started pre-season, I trained well and I was given opportunities to impress.”
Zaccardo has failed to feature in team’s first four matches of the season, but with both Ignazio Abate and Mattia De Sciglio picking up injuries, he could finally get a chance to shine.
The former Italy international has long been considered one of country’s best defenders, but a move to Milan proved to be the worst decision of his career.
Zaccardo currently has 17 Italy caps to his name and was part of the Azzurri squad that lifted the 2006 World Cup title in Germany.
