Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti has expressed disappointment with his side’s latest defeat, a 1-0 reverse away to Napoli on Sunday.
Ezequiel Lavezzi’s 59th-minute goal proved the difference between the two teams at the Stadio San Paolo, with the result – Inter’s fifth consecutive defeat in all competitions – piling more misery on the club.
Inter are now nine points adrift of the Champions League qualification places in Serie A, and Zanetti has urged the team to end their form slump by any means necessary.
“We had a good approach, but we are punished at the slightest mistake and it appears as though we do not have the strength to start things over,” Zanetti told Inter’s television channel.
“I am here to comment on another defeat. I am disappointed, this cannot continue.”
“We must take responsibility, roll up our sleeves and continue to work. We worked well during the week, but things did not go our way in the match.”
“Now we must win a match and then think about the other ones that follow.”
Inter host Catania in their next Serie A fixture on March 4.
