CSKA Moscow’s title hopes were handed a severe blow as the Muscovites crashed to a 2-0 defeat by Zenit St. Petersburg. The latter move into second place, CSKA drop to fourth.
The referee handed Zenit a penalty just before the break, and Mateja Kezman made no mistake from the spot.
A goal from Vladimir Bystrov doubled the gap in the 87th minute and allowed the home side to sit back for the remaining few minutes of the match.
Zenit are now second at seven points from leaders Rubin Kazan, but may be surpassed again on Sunday when Spartak Moscow host Tom Tomsk in the capital city.
