Russian daily newspaper Izvestia understands that Zenit are readying summer bid for Benfica attacker Nicolas Gaitan.

New boss Andre Villas-Boas is understandably looking towards the Portuguese market and the latest reports suggest he will attempt to lure the Eagles star to St Petersburg.

Winning the race for the highly rated winger will be no easy task considering that he has a long list of suitors among top European clubs, but Zenit have sufficient funds to submit a serious proposal for his services.

And while Gaitan is currently happy at Estadio da Luz, it is thought that Benfica would consider any serious offer for his services.

With his contract valid until June 2016, this is probably the perfect moment for the Eagles to cash in on their star player.

In spite of some impressive displays for Benfica, Gaitan has missed out on Alejandro Sabella’s World Cup squad, with Argentina priced at 4/1 to lift the coveted trophy.
