Zenit are attempting to sign Bologna playmaker Alessandro Diamanti, one of the player’s representatives have revealed.
Russian newspaper Izvestia has suggested that boss Luciano Spalletti has specifically requested for the experienced midfielder in order to reinforce his creative department before the winter transfer window closes.
The player’s representative Lorenzo Marronaro has moved to confirm the reports, although stating that the deal is unlikely to happen this winter.
“Zenit are indeed interested in the services of Diamanti,” Marronaro confirmed to Russian newspaper Izvestia.
“However, Bologna management have asked to postpone the issue of Alessandro’s sale while the season lasts, because he is captain and key player of the Serie A mid table club.”
Considering the circumstances, there is every chance that Zenit will wait until the end of the season before making an official offer for the Italy international.
Diamanti, 29, has seen his stock rise a great deal over the last few years, with the midfielder even playing an important role during Italy’s road to Euro 2012 final.
He has been in scintillating form this term, scoring 6 goals and setting up another 4 in 21 Serie A appearances.
