Zenit are weighing up a summer move for Basel defender Aleksandar Dragovic, according to Izvestia.

Despite signing Luis Neto from Siena in the winter transfer window, the Russian club are looking to further reinforce their back line, possibly because star stopper Tomas Hubocan is followed by some of Europe’s top clubs.

Izvestia has learned that Zenit have made Basel defender Aleksandar Dragovic their number one target.

The player’s agent has refused to comment on the Zenit link, but admitted that any official offer would be considered.

“Dragovic enjoys playing for his current club, but if the Swiss club are satisfied with the offer, we, for our part, are ready to enter the negotiations,” agent Volker Struth told Izvestia.

The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the most talented defenders in European football and has seen his name linked with Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

Despite his fragile years, Dragovic has already made 131 league appearances while playing for Austria Wien and Basel, while he also has 18 Austria caps to his name.
