Russian newspaper Izvestia is reporting that Zenit are planning a new assault on Internacional striker Leandro Damiao.
Luciano Spalletti is far from satisfied with his options up front, seeing as how neither Alexander Kerzhakov nor Alexander Bukharov have been scoring goals on regular basis.
The Italian is, therefore, hoping to add a world-class striker to his ranks, with Leandro Damiao his number one target at the moment.
Zenit have already had one bid rejected for the Brazilian, but they can take comfort from the fact that the player would consider a move to Saint Petersburg.
“Zenit were really interested in Leandro, but the proposal of the Russian club did not suit him,” Damiao’s agent Vinicius Prates said to Izvestia.
“Leandro was not against the move to Zenit, as this is a very serious club, which has set big goals and have great players in their ranks.”
Napoli were believed to be leading the chase for the 24-year-old, but their interest has cooled off after signing Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid.
Leandro Damiao has already established himself as one of the most prolific strikers in South America, having scored 71 goals in 134 league matches.
