Russian Premier League giants Zenit St Petersburg are reportedly interested in Manchester United attacking duo Dimitar Berbatov and Nani.
According to Metro, Zenit are prepared to open talks with United over a potential move for the out-of-favour Berbatov.
The 31-year-old striker has been told he can leave Old Trafford despite being just one year removed from being the join top goal scorer in the English Premier League.
The arrival of Robin van Persie most likely confirms that Berbatov, who moved from White Hart Lane to Old Trafford for a record fee of £30 million in 2008, will not play for Manchester United again.
Sir Alex Ferguson could let the Bulgarian go for as little as £5 million, with the club surely looking to get rid of the striker’s £110,000-a-week contract.
Berbatov, 31, has been linked with various clubs this summer, including AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Juventus, Galatasaray, Queens Park Rangers and West Ham. He netted seven goals in 12 league appearances (five starts) for United last term.
Zenit pursuing Nani
Zenit St Petersburg boss Luciano Spalletti has confirmed the club’s interest in Portugal international winger Nani, the Daily Mail understands.
“The news about Nani is true,” revealed Spalletti.
“Everything will depend on how much players cost because we won’t pay excessive amounts of money.
“We like both Hulk and Nani, we also like [Lionel] Messi.”
Nani will have to compete with the likes of Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia for first-team football at Manchester United in 2012-13.
With that said, that Portuguese is still one of the Red Devils’ biggest players, having tallied eight goals and 10 assists in 29 league matches (24 starts) last season.
Furthermore, the arrivals of Angelo Henriquez, Nick Powell, Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa should not have an impact on Nani’s playing time, seeing as though none of United’s aforementioned summer signings are wingers.
QPR sign Bosingwa
Queens Park Rangers have confirmed the signing of right-back Jose Bosingwa after the former Chelsea defender agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the Super Hoops, Sky Sports reports.
QPR suffered as embarrassing 5-0 home defeat to Swansea City on the first day of the 2012-13 Premier League season today, marking the second consecutive year that the Super Hoops have opened the season with a 5-0 loss.
By the looks of it, Mark Hughes’ side could use a lot of help in defence. Unfortunately, Bosingwa is not infamous for his defensive prowess.
Bosingwa made 27 league appearances for Chelsea last term, netting one goal, albeit an absolute fire cracker against Norwich on 27 August 2011, and two assists.
