Manchester United looked out of sorts for many periods as Zenit St Petersburg claimed victory on Friday afternoon in the UEFA Super Cup final in Monaco.
Zenit controlled the first 45 minutes and United looked to creep back in for the second but eventually succumbed by a margin of 2-1.
The UEFA Super Cup is a meeting between the winners of UEFA’s two biggest club competitions, the Champions League and the UEFA Cup. Manchester United and Zenit were the respective winners of theses competitons last year.
Despite missing UEFA’s Footballer of the Year, Cristiano Ronaldo, many had pegged the Premiership champions to easily take the trophy but goals from Pogrebnyak and new £25million signing Danny condemned the Red Devils to defeat.
