Zenit St. Petersburg have win the Russian title after beating Rostov 5-0, while only remaining rivals CSKA Moskva drew 1-1 at Spartak Nalchik.
Rostov were no match for Zenit in Russia’s second city, where Serbian Danko Lazovic provided the opening goal from the penalty spot in the 40th minute.
Zenit left the best for last however, with four goals scored in the final 15 minutes. Sergei Semak, Alexander Kerzhakov and Alexander Bukharov (2) found the target for a 5-0 final result.
Zenit needed CSKA to drop points at Spartak Nalchik and that is exactly what happened. Brazilian Vagner Love did hand CSKA the lead in the 59th minute but Arsen Goshokov leveled the score near the full time whistle.
As such the gap with Zenit grows to eight points with just two games to go.
It is Zenit’s second Russian title after winning the championship for the first time in 2007. The next year, they went on to win the UEFA Cup.
