Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane has started doubting Luka Modrić, according to AS.
It is believed that, upon his return to the Santiago Bernabeu dugout, the Frenchman had a clear idea about the players that would be shown the exit door this summer, regardless of the individual performances between then and the end of season. However, some individual performances have apparently made him reassess some of those he initially intended to keep, most notably Modrić.
Zidane held a meeting with a few senior players in his squad last week in an attempt to spark an upturn in form, but it obviously didn’t work as Real lost to Rayo Vallecano a few days later.
Apparently, the coach has begun wondering if Modrić, 33 years old, has perhaps passed his peak and whether he would be able to return to his best at all in the future. The Spanish outlet reported last week that Real have a verbal agreement in place with Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen whom they see as a replacement for the Croatian, and that might have acted as a catalyst for Zidane’s doubt to appear.
