AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has pledged to stay at the club despite the Serie A giants’ economic problems.
The Sweden international was the top scorer in Serie A in 2011-12, netting 28 goals in 32 matches, while adding six assists.
He was, without a doubt, Milan’s best player throughout the campaign, and arguably the best player in the Italy in 2011-12.
Nonetheless, Ibra’s streak of eight consecutive league titles ended in 2011-12 because of Juventus’ unbelievable unbeaten season in Serie A.
In normal circumstances, Milan would turn to the transfer window to revamp their squad and overtake the Old Lady.
However, the club may not be able to do so this summer due to economic concerns, said Ibrahimovic.
“Milan’s problem is an economic one,” Ibra told AftonBladet.
“We do not have the money to buy five players, or those that we need.
“We have already signed two players, maybe a third will come.
“It is also true that the more you play together, the more you can improve as a team. That is the case of Chelsea, who were not the strongest side.”
According to Goal.com, Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is keen on the Rossoneri’s star centre-back Thiago Silva, with reports suggesting that City were preparing a bid in the region of €40m for the Brazilian.
In fact, Mancini traveled to Milan to hold talks with the club regarding the Brazil international.
With that said, AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has made it clear that he will not accept any bids for Silva.
Galliani went on to admit that his meeting with Mancini was “just one of courtesy” and that Milan will not give in and sell Silva.
If the Rossoneri can hold onto their prized asset, I think that they’ll be the favorites to win next season’s Serie A.
Of course, that also depends on what Juventus do in the summer transfer window, but there’s no doubt in my mind that Milan have the superior side at the moment.
Furthermore, the additions of Riccardo Montolivo and Bakaye Traore will surely solidify Milan’s midfield.
The duo combined for nine goals and three assists in 52 league appearances in 2011-12.
Expect Montolivo to have the greater impact, but don’t count out Traore.
Lastly, Alexandre Pato must regain his form if Milan are to reclaim Serie A supremacy next season.
The Brazilian forward had his worst season as a member of the Rossoneri in 2011-12, scoring just one goal in 11 league matches.
I’ll go out on a limb and say that Pato will score more than one league goal next season.
Who will win the Serie A in 2012-13?
