Competition: International friendly
Market: England to win against Republic of Ireland
Odds: 11/10 @ William Hill
England travel to face the Republic of Ireland this afternoon, with manager Roy Hodgson likely to give some fringe players game time. It’s still a strong lineup for the Three Lions, but there will be some notable additions to the side looking to make a name for themselves.
Their form after the 2014 World Cup has been very impressive too, with a convincing win against Lithuania in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, and a draw earned versus Italy in a non-competitive capacity. Last year, they put a poor World Cup campaign behind them with friendly wins against Norway and Scotland, and enjoyed a perfect start in the qualifiers, with victories against Switzerland, San Marino, Estonia and Slovenia.
The Republic of Ireland are not to be underestimated, however, with Martin O’Neill’s side having surprised many with their impressive run of results in the last 18 months. Ireland have drawn against a strong Poland side in the qualifiers, while earning positive results against Germany, Costa Rica, the USA and Italy last year.
Nevertheless, England are the favourites, William Hill are giving odds of 11/10 for the Three Lions to earn victory over Ireland this afternoon.
